CZ: AI Agent Trading May Arrive Before AI Payments, Machine Autonomy Accelerating
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao says AI agent trading takes clear priority over AI payments, with trading likely the first arena where AI directly participates in real economic activity.

On August 27, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao told the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference that AI agent trading ranks far above AI payments in priority.
Zhao argued that leading AI companies are currently focused on making agents smarter and better at identifying optimal trading opportunities for users. In trading scenarios, AI can process market information faster, complete analysis, and execute directly—and users will increasingly want AI to handle trades end-to-end rather than merely offer recommendations. As a result, AI agent trading is likely to reach practical deployment before AI payments.
He also noted that the convergence of AI and crypto assets may first emerge through stablecoins. Once stablecoins become a direct asset interface for AI, Bitcoin and other blockchain assets could gradually enter AI's financial activity sphere.
OceanAlt Analysis
This may be a more significant signal than "when will AI payments explode": machines are gaining true economic execution rights.
In the past, AI handled analysis while humans clicked to confirm. The next phase of agents will directly place orders, trade, rebalance portfolios, procure, and move funds.
Once execution authority shifts from humans to machines, the challenges facing financial infrastructure change fundamentally.
The system no longer only needs to know "how money moves out"—it must also know:
Who authorized this agent, how much capital it can deploy, who it can transact with, under what conditions it must halt, and whether every financial action can be explained and traced.
Therefore, AI agent trading arriving before AI payments does not mean Agent Payment demand is weakening. On the contrary, it suggests the trust, authorization, risk-control, and settlement infrastructure it depends on must emerge even sooner.
Trading is just the first stop on the road to machine economic autonomy.
Once agents truly control orders and assets, payments, procurement, subscriptions, compute purchases, and cross-border settlement are simply subsequent milestones along the same evolutionary path.
OceanAlt's view: the truly critical infrastructure ahead is not just about enabling machines to "spend money," but ensuring every machine economic action can be authorized, judged, executed, and traced.
From "AI helps humans decide" to "AI executes on behalf of humans," the machine economy is crossing its most decisive threshold.
