xAI Launches Grok Bot: An Autonomous AI 'Teammate' That Gets Work Done

On August 12, xAI introduced Grok Bot, an always-on AI agent service positioned as an autonomous "AI teammate" that can handle multi-step tasks end-to-end. According to the company, Grok Bot runs in its own dedicated cloud computing environment, allowing it to log into users' existing apps, tools, and websites, execute tasks independently, and only check in with users when a task is completed or requires approval.

Grok Bot marks xAI's latest push into enterprise-grade AI services, directly competing with OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and Anthropic's Claude Cowork. The service's ability to access users' online accounts means users must authorize it to handle sensitive operations, sparking discussions around AI agent security and compliance.
