Ram Kumar, a core contributor to OpenLedger, said at the 2026 Wyoming Blockchain Symposium that AI agent payments will become the first AI 'killer app' in the crypto space. He noted that AI agents cannot open bank accounts or complete KYC verification, making cryptocurrency their natural medium of exchange. 'Agents can't create bank accounts, and they can't do KYC,' Kumar told The Block. 'The easiest path is clearly to use crypto payments.'
Kumar believes agent-driven transactions will be the next major use case for AI in crypto. He mentioned that people already use AI to research tokens and stocks, and in the future, agents will take on more of the trading process. 'The next evolution is using agents to execute trades, starting with very small amounts and then scaling up gradually.'
OpenLedger also plans to expand its business from B2B to the consumer market in the coming years. The platform will allow users to fine-tune AI models and access models on the platform, while adding more privacy options. Since completing an $8 million seed round led by Polychain Capital and Borderless Capital in 2024, OpenLedger has focused on AI infrastructure. In November, it launched the OPEN mainnet to track AI data provenance and distribute rewards to contributors. Kumar said OpenLedger views blockchain as a service layer for AI, not as a product in itself.
