Rocket Money Launches AI Agent Rowan to Auto-Cancel Subscriptions
The personal finance app's new AI agent, powered by Anthropic, proactively texts users about savings opportunities and executes actions like canceling subscriptions and negotiating bills.

Personal finance app Rocket Money announced on Tuesday (Aug. 25) the launch of Rowan, an AI agent that continuously monitors users' finances and proactively reaches out via text message when it identifies savings opportunities. Powered by Anthropic, the tool is designed to complete the "last step" that traditional finance apps stop short of—taking action rather than just offering advice.
According to the announcement, Rowan can handle tasks such as canceling subscriptions, negotiating bills, and automating savings. For example, if a user signs up for a free trial of a streaming service but doesn't use it, Rowan will text after three weeks to ask if they want to cancel. When the user replies "cancel," the agent directly contacts the service provider to complete the cancellation and confirm the result. Additionally, users can set rules through conversational commands—like rounding up every coffee purchase to the nearest dollar and transferring the difference to a high-yield savings account—and Rowan will execute them automatically.
The product marks a shift for AI agents from providing recommendations to executing financial actions on behalf of users. Rocket Money did not disclose a formal launch date for Rowan but said it has worked with Anthropic to ensure the agent's safety and reliability.
