Ant International's AMP Protocol Onboards First 17 Global Payment Institutions
Ant International announced that its agent protocol AMP (Agent Mobile Payment) has onboarded its first batch of 17 global payment institutions, spanning mobile payment networks across multiple markets. According to the company, AMP is designed for payment scenarios initiated by AI agents, allowing agents to complete transactions within the scope of user authorization and to settle through existing mobile payment channels.
The first cohort of participants includes a number of regional wallets and acquiring institutions, though the full list has not been disclosed. Ant International said AMP connects the account infrastructure of mobile payments with the automated execution capabilities of AI agents, so that agent payments do not require building new, standalone channels.
For the industry, agent payments are moving from the protocol layer toward real money flows, and the number of connected institutions and their geographic coverage will directly affect usability. AMP overlaps in positioning with machine payment protocols such as x402 and MCP, and whether cross-protocol interoperability can be achieved remains to be seen.
