Circle Opens Arc Mainnet to Expand USDC Use Cases

Stablecoin issuer Circle has officially opened the mainnet of its Layer-1 blockchain Arc, positioning the network as infrastructure for payments and settlement, aimed at expanding more on-chain application space for USDC. According to the company's announcement, following the Arc mainnet launch, developers and institutions can connect to its network for stablecoin settlement and related financial operations.

Circle has in recent years continued to push USDC's adoption in cross-border settlement, agent payments, and other scenarios, and the launch of Arc is seen as a key step in its extension from a single stablecoin issuer to a underlying settlement layer. Unlike general-purpose public chains, Arc has made targeted designs in compliance and settlement efficiency, attempting to establish differentiated advantages in the increasingly crowded stablecoin race.

Currently, USDC's circulating supply ranks among the top in the stablecoin market, but facing competition from Tether's USDT and bank-issued stablecoins, Circle needs more complete proprietary infrastructure to lock in institutional clients. The actual adoption of the Arc mainnet will test whether this strategy can work.
