UnionPay International Partners with TripGuru.ai to Launch Agentic Payments

UnionPay International has announced a partnership with TripGuru.ai to support AI agents in initiating and completing payments in travel scenarios. According to a joint announcement, the capability is aimed at users of TripGuru.ai's itinerary-planning agent, which can directly call UnionPay International's payment channel to complete booking payments after obtaining user authorization, covering categories such as overseas hotels and tickets.

This marks the first time UnionPay International has connected a card network's clearing infrastructure to a third-party AI agent platform. Previously, agent payments largely relied on stablecoins or independent payment channels, and direct entry by card networks has been rare.

For the industry, as agents begin to make real charges on users' behalf, the setting of authorization scope, per-transaction limits, and payee whitelists is becoming an indispensable part of the payment chain.
