Arc announced the launch of a payment feature for AI agents that supports USDC settlement across three blockchains and removes the wallet operation step in which agents must hold gas tokens themselves. According to its announcement, the solution allows agents to initiate USDC transfers directly, with on-chain fees handled by Arc, so developers do not need to configure native token wallets separately for each chain.
Arc did not disclose the number of merchants or agents onboarded in the first batch, nor did it specify the names of the three chains. From a technical standpoint, the design targets a long-standing friction point in agent payments: if agents are to pay autonomously across multiple chains, they typically need to hold each chain's native token in advance to cover gas, which imposes additional capital lock-up and operational burden on automated programs.
The agent payments sector has been heating up recently, with machine payment protocols based on HTTP 402, such as x402, driving more stablecoin settlement use cases into production. Arc's move abstracts multi-chain gas, but whether it will be widely adopted by developers still depends on the maturity of its settlement finality and compliance tooling.
