The Cardano network has launched an x402 Facilitator component, enabling ADA tokens to connect to the HTTP 402-based machine payment protocol. According to 99Bitcoins, the Facilitator acts as an intermediary layer between agents and on-chain settlement, responsible for verifying and forwarding payment requests initiated by AI agents. The x402 protocol, originally proposed by Coinbase, aims to allow automated programs to complete instant stablecoin or token transfers via standard HTTP status codes without human intervention. Cardano's integration means developers within its ecosystem can use ADA for machine-to-machine payment scenarios, such as API call billing or data service subscriptions. Currently, the Facilitator's specific fee structure, supported currencies, and launch timeline have not been fully disclosed, but the codebase is already public.
