Communications infrastructure provider Bird announced on September 23, 2026 that it has closed $450 million in debt financing, led by J.P. Morgan with participation from Capital One, Citi and other institutions. According to a blog post by founder and CEO Robert Vis, the raise consists of a $400 million term loan and a $50 million revolving credit facility. The proceeds will be used to provide liquidity to existing and former employee shareholders while keeping the company private and independent.
On the same day, Bird launched Agentic Harness, which allows AI agents to connect directly to its communications infrastructure. According to the company, agents acting on behalf of individuals or businesses can use it to send messages and follow up on WhatsApp, place calls and reply to customers, send and manage email, and obtain a dedicated eSIM mobile plan.
Vis said the infrastructure Bird has built over the years carries trillions of messages annually, and is now being opened to a new user group: "agents acting on behalf of individuals and businesses." He also noted that the company's own operations have already been transformed by widespread automation, enabling it to lower prices.
