Cleverbridge Teams Up with Visa and Revolut to Complete France's First AI Agent-Initiated Payment
The transaction was authorized and cleared through Visa's network with account-side support from Revolut, marking a step from proof-of-concept to real card-network settlement for agentic payments.
Payment service provider Cleverbridge announced that it has partnered with Visa and digital bank Revolut to complete France's first real-time payment initiated and settled by an AI agent. According to the company's announcement, the transaction was authorized and cleared through Visa's payment network, with Revolut providing account-side support, and the entire process required no human intervention.
Cleverbridge has long provided cross-border collection and renewal infrastructure for software and subscription merchants. This transaction was a live test of connecting agent-initiated payment intents to existing card network rails. Visa has been steadily building out standards related to agentic payments in recent years, while Revolut holds an e-money license in Europe.
The three parties did not disclose the transaction amount or the specific merchant. For the industry, the shift of agentic payments from proof-of-concept to real card network clearing means that areas such as defining authorization intent, per-transaction limits, and pre-settlement interception are now being brought into the practical testing scope of existing compliance frameworks.
