Docker Launches New Sandbox Aimed at Truly Isolating AI Agents
Docker this week released a set of isolated sandbox solutions for AI agents, aiming to separate their runtime environment from the host machine and other workloads when agents execute code or call external tools. According to The Register, the solution targets a common problem: current agent frameworks generally rely on containers but do not enforce strict boundary limits.
The new sandbox adds more fine-grained runtime constraints on top of container isolation, including restrictions on the file system, network egress, and process privileges, to reduce the risk of lateral movement after an agent is exploited through prompt injection or a malicious toolchain. Docker says the capability is aimed at scenarios where developers run untrusted agent code locally or in CI environments.
As AI agents begin to connect to real funds and production systems, runtime isolation boundaries are shifting from an engineering detail to a security prerequisite. Docker's move echoes recent discussions around agent payments, KYA, and pre-settlement interception: before an agent can autonomously initiate transactions, it must first be ensured that it runs inside a controllable box.
