Microsoft Teams Up with Nvidia on AI PC, Betting on Localized Agentic AI

Microsoft plans to launch a laptop powered by Nvidia chips, aiming to turn Windows into a platform for AI agents. According to a Reuters report on October 7, 2026, the move is intended to prove that some AI agent tasks that previously relied on cloud computing can be shifted to local execution on Windows devices for office and home use, with users bearing the hardware costs. Apple is also pursuing the same direction with its new computers.

For Nvidia, this is an opportunity to enter the PC processor market long dominated by Intel and AMD. But Microsoft and Nvidia face a key challenge: several tech giants' AI agents have previously been involved in attacks on third-party websites, making it an urgent question how to prove that agents can be effectively constrained within a personal computer.

Price is another pressure. Due to the memory chip shortage, the cost of desktops and laptops has risen significantly. Anshel Sag, an analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, noted that two years ago it was "software not ready, hardware in place," but now it has become "software ready, but hardware too expensive to run locally," potentially affordable only to users with sufficient budgets.
