Sui Off-Chain Channels Hit 40.6 Million TPS in Test Simulating High-Frequency AI Agent Trading
Sui's programmable off-chain tunnels reached a peak throughput of 40,614,180 TPS in a live stress test, up sharply from roughly 6.1 million TPS in July, as the Layer-1 positions itself for AI agent-to-agent payments.

Sui Off-Chain Channels Hit 40.6 Million TPS in Live Test
Layer-1 public blockchain Sui recorded a peak throughput of 40,614,180 TPS through its programmable off-chain channels, known as tunnels, during a live stress test at Sui Basecamp in Singapore on October 7, 2026. The result marks a sharp increase from roughly 6.1 million TPS in a similar test in July.
During the test, more than 10,000 tunnels were opened on the Sui mainnet, with activity spanning payments, gaming and chat applications.
The tunnels are programmable off-chain settlement channels: transactions are processed off-chain and settled to the Sui mainnet in a single batch when a channel closes, rather than posting every transaction directly on-chain. Sui says the design is intended to support high-frequency interactions between AI agents. Adeniyi Abiodun, co-founder and chief product officer at Mysten Labs, said real-world markets do not need 6 million transactions per second, let alone 40 million, but AI agents can.
Security auditor CertiK took part in the demonstration as an independent auditor and is currently reviewing the test data, with a report expected in the coming days.
