Anthropic Cuts Off AI Agents' Access to the Live Internet

Anthropic has imposed restrictions on its AI agent products, barring them from directly accessing the live internet. According to a company announcement, the move is intended to reduce the risk of agents encountering unverified content while executing tasks autonomously, and affects its Claude series of agent features.

The restriction means agents can no longer scrape web pages or call external APIs in real time, and must instead obtain information through preconfigured, controlled data sources or human-reviewed channels. Anthropic did not disclose a specific effective date, but said the change has already been rolled out in its enterprise edition first.

For developers who rely on agents for automated trading or data collection, the loss of real-time capability could affect response speeds in some scenarios. It remains unclear whether the restriction applies to all regions and all agent tiers.
