Dubai-based Mashreq Bank cut integration design and troubleshooting time by up to 70% in an early pilot of IBM Bob, the company's AI software engineering platform, compressing manual tasks that previously took two to three hours into minutes. IBM announced the results on October 12, 2026.
According to the disclosure, Mashreq's secure gateway, built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), handles roughly 4,000 AI agent requests per month across its banking, payments and enterprise systems. The bank's integration platform processes an average of 650 transactions per second across digital channels, payments and enterprise systems.
Mohamed Abdel Razek, Mashreq's Group Head of Technology, Transformation and Information, said the bank continues to invest in technology that helps engineering teams move faster while maintaining system resilience and quality. Data from PYMNTS Intelligence shows that 53% of financial institutions view manual-intensive processes as the biggest obstacle to real-time payments modernization.
