JPMorgan CEO Dimon Warns Clients: Using AI Agents Carries 'Transfer of Liability' Risk
JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon warned clients on Tuesday's third-quarter earnings call that if they authorize AI agents to access bank accounts, clients must bear the associated risks themselves. Dimon said, "You don't want an agent running amok; there could be thousands of them." He emphasized that using AI agents involves a "transfer of liability," and clients should clearly understand the potential for data misuse. These remarks come weeks after Meta's AI assistant launch, reigniting concerns about AI-driven deposit outflows. Dimon revealed that JPMorgan is building tools to protect clients while prohibiting any external agents from directly accessing the bank's internal systems, calling such access "too risky" for both clients and the bank. JPMorgan CFO Jeremy Barnum said on the same day that the bank's AI-driven smart cash tool is in pilot phase, capable of allocating funds across client accounts to optimize returns. Dimon also suggested regulators should prepare for the potential impact of agentic AI on deposit and liquidity risk management.
