USDC Dominates AI Agent Payments as Circulating Supply Stays Above MiCA's €5B Threshold for 12 Consecutive Months
USDC's sustained position above the EU's key stablecoin threshold keeps issuer Circle under the bloc's enhanced regulatory framework as stablecoin compliance becomes a deciding factor in AI agent and machine-to-machine settlement infrastructure.

According to CryptoRank data, USDC dominates AI agent payment use cases, with its circulating supply having remained above €5 billion for 12 consecutive months. That threshold corresponds to a key compliance requirement for stablecoin issuers under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).
MiCA stipulates that when a euro-denominated stablecoin's circulating supply exceeds €500 million, or a non-euro-denominated stablecoin exceeds €5 billion, the issuer must meet stricter reserve, redemption and governance obligations. USDC's prolonged position above that threshold means its issuer, Circle, remains subject to the EU's enhanced regulatory framework in the European market.
As AI agent and machine-to-machine payments gradually move into practice, stablecoin compliance status is becoming an important variable in selecting settlement infrastructure. The relationship between USDC's share of agent payment usage and its compliance arrangements in the EU warrants continued observation.
