Proof and Circle Complete End-to-End Agentic Payment Demo with x401/x402

According to Forkast News, Proof and Circle have completed an end-to-end agentic commerce demonstration that links the x401 and x402 flows into a single, complete handshake. x402 is a machine payment protocol built on the HTTP 402 status code, designed to let AI agents automatically complete payments when accessing paid resources; x401 corresponds to the identity and authorization step that precedes the handshake.
In the demo, the agent first completes identity verification and authorization through the x401 step, then proceeds to the x402 step to initiate and settle payment, with both flows closing within the same chain. Circle provides stablecoin settlement capabilities, while Proof handles the agent-side handshake and credential processing.
According to both parties, the demo is intended to verify that agentic payments can go from "who is paying" to "how much was paid" within a single interaction, rather than being split into two separate systems. For the x402 ecosystem, putting identity authorization and fund settlement into the same handshake chain is a step that agentic payments must clear on the path toward deployable real-world scenarios.
