Atom Integrates Coinbase x402, Enabling AI Agents to Register Domains Autonomously
By plugging into the x402 payment protocol, Atom lets AI agents pay for domain registrations without human intervention—pushing authorization and spending-limit checks to the point of order.

Domain registration platform Atom has announced integration with Coinbase's x402 payment protocol, enabling AI agents to autonomously complete payments for domain registrations. Built on the HTTP 402 status code, x402 is designed for instant settlement in machine-to-machine (M2M) scenarios.
According to the company's announcement, the integration allows agents to initiate and complete domain purchases without human intervention, with the x402 protocol handling the payment step. Atom did not disclose the scope of the rollout or specific transaction volumes.
Domain registration has long relied on manual orders and card-on-file payments, making it one of the harder steps for agents to clear when executing tasks autonomously. This integration brings the action onto programmable payment rails—and moves the need to verify "who authorized this payment and for how much" forward to the ordering stage.
