Coinbase has launched a financial account product for AI agents, allowing bot programs to connect directly to its trading system, with more than 900 crypto asset pairs currently tradable. According to the company, the account system provides automated programs with interfaces for order placement, queries, and position management, enabling agents to execute trades autonomously within preset authorization limits.
This product pushes AI agents from "assisted decision-making" to "direct order placement," with fund operation permissions constrained by human account holders through API keys and quota limits. Coinbase did not disclose the current number of connected agents or average daily trading volume.
Against the backdrop of rising agent payments and automated trading, exchanges are positioning "machine-usable accounts" as a new entry point. Similar to stablecoin settlement scenarios, when agents directly reach real funds and order books, risk control mechanisms such as authorization boundaries, per-transaction limits, and anomaly interception are becoming prerequisites for whether such products can scale.
