Ripple Expands AI Capabilities for Treasury Product GSmart, Targeting Agent Governance Gap

Ripple announced on September 10, 2026, that it is expanding the AI capabilities of its treasury management product GSmart, adding new "policy-governed" features for tasks including forecasting, liquidity, risk, reconciliation, and reporting. According to the announcement, GSmart separates financial computation from AI interpretation: a deterministic engine handles the calculations behind financial decisions, while AI interprets policies, identifies patterns, and explains recommendations. Treasury teams retain approval authority over every financial action.

Citing a Gartner forecast, Ripple noted that by 2028, Fortune 500 companies could deploy an average of up to 150,000 AI agents each; yet only 13% of enterprises believe they have adequate AI agent governance in place. Renaat Ver Eecke, Senior Vice President of Ripple's treasury business, said CFOs face pressure to adopt AI while also ensuring that every financial decision is explainable, governed, and compliant.

The new features embed AI into the policies, data, and workflows that treasury teams use daily, rather than requiring clients to trust AI systems directly. The move comes as enterprise adoption of AI agents outpaces governance frameworks, making permission boundaries and auditability for agents in treasury scenarios a growing concern.
