MAS Tests Cross-Bank AI Model to Speed Up Scam Detection

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) is testing a cross-bank shared AI model to identify scam transactions more quickly. According to Fintech News SG, the test allows participating banks to jointly train and use the model while protecting data privacy, so as to identify suspicious cross-institution fund flows.

Traditional anti-fraud systems mostly operate independently within each bank, making it difficult to capture cross-bank, cross-account scam chains. MAS's push for cross-bank AI collaboration is intended to break this data silo and shift scam detection from isolated defense to networked, coordinated protection.

The specific list of participating banks, technical details of the model, and rollout timeline have not yet been fully disclosed. MAS has in recent years continued to step up its fintech regulatory sandbox and anti-scam infrastructure, and this move is seen as another step in its efforts to promote AI adoption in compliance and risk control scenarios.
