Tether Leads $15M Series A in Mural, Betting on AI Agent Payment Infrastructure
The stablecoin issuer led the New York payment infrastructure company's $15 million Series A, with North Island Ventures and existing investors participating.

Stablecoin issuer Tether has led a $15 million Series A round in New York-based payment infrastructure company Mural, with North Island Ventures and existing investors participating. According to an announcement released Tuesday, Mural's cumulative funding has now reached $28 million.
Founded by former Palantir engineers, Mural provides fintech platforms with account management, payments, identity verification and compliance infrastructure spanning traditional banking networks and blockchains. Its clients include payroll platform Deel and browser developer Opera.
The company's systems allow businesses to set per-transaction limits, restrict counterparties, and require additional approval for larger payments — addressing questions of authorization and accountability when autonomous software moves money. In a statement, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said that as AI agents begin to move funds, their connections to banks, payment networks and compliance systems become indispensable.
The investment is Tether's latest move to expand its infrastructure footprint beyond stablecoin issuance, as programmable payments are increasingly seen as a potential landing point for AI-driven financial services.
