Generative AI Adoption in Finance Reaches 80%, but Autonomous Cash Management Stalls at 5%
A report from PYMNTS Intelligence and JPMorgan shows that 80% of finance teams use generative AI in cash flow management in 2026, up sharply from 16% in 2025, while just 5% use agentic AI, roughly flat to slightly down from 6% in 2025.

A report released by PYMNTS Intelligence in collaboration with JPMorgan shows that 80% of finance teams use generative AI in cash flow management in 2026, up sharply from 16% in 2025. Meanwhile, the share of teams using agentic AI stands at 5%, roughly unchanged from 6% in 2025 and slightly lower.
AI remains largely confined to analysis and recommendations. 64% of finance teams consult AI-generated insights or recommendations in cash flow decisions, up from 44% a year earlier. 28% of CFOs consider such insights the most influential basis for cash flow decisions, compared with 13% in 2025. Business intelligence dashboards rank slightly higher at 29%.
The underlying technology stack has not been replaced: 96% of enterprises still use business intelligence and analytics tools, 95% use spreadsheets, and 93% use ERP systems. 76% of finance teams still rely on manual spreadsheet analysis, but only 2% consider it the most influential, down from 10% last year. In addition, 65% of enterprises use AI or machine learning for real-time fraud detection; among enterprises using two or more types of AI, that share is 71%.
The report says the data do not explain why agentic AI adoption has stalled at around 5%, so it cannot be attributed to trust, technical limitations, or corporate policy.
