Anthropic Launches Claude Duet, an AI Agent That Can Buy Office Supplies on Users' Behalf
Claude Duet, built on Claude Opus 5.5, proactively contacts users when tasks need attention, continues executing assigned tasks while users are away, and confirms with users before acting on their behalf. Payments run through Stripe's Link wallet and Shopify's Shop Pay.

Anthropic released Claude Duet on 2026-10-21, a "proactive agent" application built on Claude Opus 5.5. According to its announcement, the app proactively contacts users when a task requires attention, continues executing tasks already assigned after the user steps away, and confirms with the user before taking action on their behalf.
On the payments side, Claude Duet connects to Stripe's digital wallet Link: the agent first confirms the item with the user, then Link requests the user's approval for the spending, and the payment is ultimately completed with a virtual card so the real card number is never exposed; online store checkouts can also use Shopify's Shop Pay. The app can draw on memory, skills and connected apps in the user's Claude account as context, and connects to more than 6,000 connectors and plugins in the Claude Marketplace. Actions such as sending messages, making payments, signing documents or deleting content are all executed only after user approval.
Claude Duet opened on the same day as a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States. Personal AI agents have been landing thick and fast recently: Meta's Muse surpassed 10 million downloads in the first 35 days after launching in the US and Canada (according to a Sensor Tower announcement on 10-19), OpenAI launched dots on 9-29, and xAI's Grok Bot began supporting read-only access to users' financial data on 9-26.
