Sutherland Partners with FlowX.AI to Deploy 220+ AI Agents on Banks' Legacy Core Systems
Sutherland will deploy and operate FlowX.AI's prebuilt agents for onboarding, lending, underwriting, AML checks and retention, layering automation on top of core systems rather than replacing them.

Sutherland and FlowX.AI announced a partnership on October 19: Sutherland will deploy and operate AI agents supplied by FlowX.AI across regulated industries including banking and insurance in North America and Europe. FlowX.AI provides more than 220 prebuilt agents for tasks such as account opening, lending, mortgage underwriting, anti-money laundering checks and customer retention.
The two companies have chosen to layer agents on top of banks' existing core systems rather than replace those cores. According to a 2024 briefing by researchers at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, many banks' core systems have been running for as long as 40 years, and a full migration often takes years and costs millions of dollars. FlowX.AI says that at one European commercial lender, manual handoffs in the credit process fell by 80%, and that another institution serving more than 4 million customers cut loan operations costs by 40%, though it did not disclose the institutions' names.
Agent permissions are opened up gradually based on actual performance. Kastle CEO Rishi Choudhary describes agents as an "action layer" above the core system: a collections agent can process payments but cannot reverse them. Kastle, which closed a $24 million funding round in September, likewise focuses on layering capabilities onto existing core systems. A PYMNTS Intelligence survey found that 52% of financial institutions cite legacy technology as an obstacle to modernizing real-time payments, while 53% mention labor-intensive internal processes.
